This is an absolute dream draw for both world number 62 Adrian Mannarino and number 119 Christopher Eubanks, the latter of whom will break the top 100 on tour for the first time no matter the outcome of the match. 26-year-old Eubanks stunned Borna Coric in three sets on Saturday after a strong qualifying round but his victory over Gregoire Barrere on Sunday is perhaps his most impressive of the campaign so far given the pressure on him to back up that upset. However, 34-year-old Mannarino has provided two of the biggest shocks of the tournament with an excellent three-set win over Ben Shelton backed-up by a remarkable clutch result in two tiebreaks over former champion Hubert Hurkacz. The Frenchman is always capable of top 30 tennis on his day but those days have come fewer and further apart in recent seasons, although he claimed a second ATP title at the Winston-Salem Open last August from out of the blue. A first meeting between Mannarino and underdog Eubanks in the biggest match of his career will be fascinating but much of it will depend on what the crowd can give the American. Given Mannarino’s remarkable results, taking the Frenchman to earn at least a set looks the sensible way to avoid picking a winner here.
