World number 58 Arthur Rinderknech has lost both of his matches this week to Jannik Sinner and Roman Safiullin whilst world number 49 James Duckworth has lost only to the Russian, with young Max Purcell facing Sinner in the opening tie. Purcell could well be given the nod in this second option match by team captain Lleyton Hewitt and that makes it well worth waiting for a solid confirmation here. Either Aussie is good enough to take at least a set as the likelier winner with the backing of a boisterous home crowd, with Rinderknech yet to win an international match over this tournament and last November’s Davis Cup.
