THE PREDICTION

World number 58 Arthur Rinderknech reached a first ATP tour final with a commanding straight-sets victory over fellow Frenchman Corentin Moutet on Friday. The 26-year-old defeated the third seed Karen Khachanov in the quarter-finals for one of the best results of his career so far after breaking onto the tour last season. The day will be about 25-year-old Thanasi Kokkinakis, though, who utilised every ounce of support from his home crowd in Adelaide to beat former US Open champion Marin Cilic in three sets. The Aussie is embarking on his latest journey back from injury but there is something in the air this time around and his wildcard at the Australian Open looks set to be a fruitful one no matter the outcome here. It should be an honest slog from the baseline between two powerful hitters but if Kokkinakis can beat John Isner and Cilic here – not to mention Frances Tiafoe last week – he can ride this momentous wave to an emotional first ever ATP title.
