World number 24 Leylah Fernandez should enjoy another stunning season on tour if she can maintain the swashbuckling level she displayed at the US Open, making her a fans favourite along the way. The 19-year-old won her first WTA title last season at the Monterrey Open but finishing runner-up to Emma Raducanu in New York will be a huge feat to better in 2022. She beat world number 34 Ekaterina Alexandrova in impressive straight sets and that match practice could help her to a statement victory in this first meeting with Iga Swiatek. World number nine Swiatek suffered trials and tribulations in 2021 despite winning her first Masters title at the Italian Open and it will be a relief to see her refreshed in 2022. The 2020 Roland-Garros champion remains the slight favourite here on ranking but take Fernandez to win at least a set given the start to her Adelaide campaign.
