The 33-year-old was in a real battle with Karen Khachanov on Thursday but four breaks of the Russian’s serve is serious form to take into an eighths career meeting with Roberto Bautista Agut. Cilic leads this head-to-head record 5-2, with his first two wins remarkably coming in the finals of the Kremlin Cup in 2014 and 2015. More recently the pair have taken a five-set epic at the Australian Open each, RBA in 2019 and Cilic last season. World number 20 Bautista Agut, also 33, took out Mackenzie McDonald in comfortable fashion on Thursday but that record against Cilic and the Croat’s current level suggests this is leaning towards the former world number three.
