World number 31 Lloyd Harris has earned himself a new career-high ATP world ranking already this week after a confident straight-sets victory over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The 24-year-old reached a first ATP 500 final this season at the Dubai Open before defeat to Aslan Karatsev but his first title should not be too far away given his form. A career-best win over Rafael Nadal at the Washington Open and a stunning run to the quarter-finals of the US Open suggest he has a bright future in the game. World number 10 Casper Ruud conceded just three games to Roberto Carballes Baena on Saturday to make it a six-match winning streak from the Laver Cup through to a fifth ATP title won at the San Diego Open last week. The 22-year-old won three tournaments in a row in three weeks earlier this season, becoming the first player to do since Andy Murray in 2011.
THE PREDICTION
There should be no more underestimating 22-year-old Casper Ruud off the clay, with the world number 10 winning his first hardcourt title in San Diego last week and well likely to qualify for the year-end ATP Finals. The Norwegian has faced Lloyd Harris once before and took the first set before the South African retired at the Winston-Salem Open two years ago but both have improved significantly since 2019. The slower courts at Indian Wells are catching some players out but they will suit the likes of Ruud down to the ground. The desert is almost clay and so far Casper Ruud looks at home on his Indian Wells debut. Take the sixth seed to win outright here despite the best efforts of Lloyd Harris.
