THE LOWDOWN
World number two Daniil Medvedev looked in excellent shape against Mackenzie McDonald in the second round of Indian Wells, which remains one of two hardcourt Masters events he is yet to win alongside the Miami Open. The 25-year-old went one better last month, though, with a first Grand Slam title of his career at the US Open where he totally outplayed a spent Novak Djokovic in three sets. The Russian has 13 titles in total to his name, including the 2020 ATP Finals he will defend in November. 29-year-old Filip Krajinovic overcame an in-form American on Saturday with a straight-sets victory over Marcos Giron. The 27th seed made the semi-finals of the Sofia Open last week before losing to eventual champion Jannik Sinner and the final of the Hamburg Open back in July.
THE PREDICTION
There is some potential for a thriller here between Daniil Medvedev and Filip Krajinovic if their last meeting is anything to go by. The pair shared five sets in the third round of the Australian Open earlier this season before Medvedev powered through the decider 6-0 but a lot of that score-line was affected by the mood of the Russian, who sent his coach out of the arena at one stage. They are currently drawing 1-1 in their head-to-head with Krajinovic winning their first meeting at this very stage of the last Indian Wells in 2019, a few months before the current world number two suddenly became the world-beater he is today. It fell in straight sets to the Serb here two years ago but take Medvedev to return the favour late on Monday night.
