12th seed Ons Jabeur conceded just four games to Danielle Collins on Sunday to reach the round of 16 at Indian Wells for the first time. The Tunisian is chasing records with her goal to become the first Arab to qualify for the WTA Finals getting closer. Currently ninth in the race, she will set a new career-high WTA world ranking no matter the outcome of this match after an excellent season saw her first title win at the Birmingham Classic and a superb run to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. 22-year-old Anna Kalinskaya is getting closer to her career-high WTA world ranking of 96th after a brilliant comeback to win from a set down against Viktorija Golubic. The Russian backed up her stunning second round victory over Sara Sorribes Tormo with another dogged performance, with all three of her matches at Indian Wells so far seeing a deciding set.
THE PREDICTION
27-year-old Ons Jabeur is fast-becoming a fans’ favourite anywhere she goes after her brilliant exploits on the grass swing earlier this season and she looked ruthless against Danielle Collins in the third round. She is the solid favourite to win through here and she can do so in straight sets if she maintains her level, with Anna Kalinskaya staying in each of her matches until the end so far. The Russian’s performances have come from out of the blue and Jabeur has occasionally been guilty of taking her eye off the ball mid-match, so taking Jabeur to win outright is the sensible pick here.
