Second seed Iga Swiatek is the highest seed left in the draw after Karolina Pliskova’s limp exit on Monday and the Pole is playing like one with just five games conceded across her two matches so far. The Latvian’s first ever WTA title was also Roland-Garros at barely 20 years old back in 2017 and she claimed the fourth of her career at the Eastbourne International back in June.
THE PREDICTION
This promises to be a brilliant match between two of the more passionate, hard-hitting women on the WTA tour, and two young Roland-Garros champions for that matter, in Jelena Ostapenko and Iga Swiatek. Ostapenko was the winner of their only previous meeting at the Birmingham Classic back in 2019 but Swiatek was an up and coming talent then and a whole year away from her emergence as a star. There could be three sets in this if Ostapenko brings her best game, and a decider would be anyone’s guess, but the way Swiatek is playing is reminiscent of her title-winning campaigns. The brave call is Swiatek in straight sets here, the sensible is an outright pick for the woman looking likeliest to lift the trophy on Saturday.
