It is rare to see two such similar players line-up as Thomaz Bellucci and Thiago Monteiro with both Brazilians around six foot and left-handed and this should make for quite an interesting match. Monteiro won their only previous meeting at the Rio de Janeiro Open on clay in 2017 in a three-set tussle and similar fare could be set to play out in the first round at Delray Beach. With few South Americans on tour, let alone Brazilians, it is likely that these two know each other’s games well despite only playing once at tour level. However, as Bellucci reaches the twilight of his career at 33 years old, Monteiro won almost half of his 18 matches on tour last season and is at this stage certainly the better player.
