THE PREDICTION
There is definitely something brooding in Mackenzie McDonald that should see him higher up the rankings than his current world number 194. Last season the 25-year-old American took Dan Evans and Casper Ruud all the way to five sets, in the Australian Open and US Open respectively, before falling to defeat and he can be dangerous on his day. Sam Querrey had a terrible time of it after the restart last August and is in fact on a five-match losing streak stretching back to late January last year at the Australian Open. This match has upset written all over it but for that reason is a very difficult one to make a call on. What with the controversy surrounding Querrey’s ill-advised travel back to the US after contracting covid-19 in Russia and the potential affects the unrest and illness may have had on his psyche, McDonald will do well to capitalise on that by going hard and early in this one. The younger American could edge this encounter but picking McDonald to win the first set or for there to be a decider, in lieu of a result, could be slightly safer options in this difficult tie.
