THE PREDICTION
Cameron Norrie ended 2020 as the world number 74 after his season wound down slowly from the restart. The Brit claimed a memorable career-win over Diego Schwartzman in the first round of the US Open in September as the highlight to a middling year that did not quite live up to his career-high 41st ranking achieved the year previous. Norrie beat Taylor Fritz in the first round of this tournament last season to reach the round of 16 and he looks good to emulate that best showing in Florida when he takes on relative unknown JC Aragone. This looks to be the 25-year-old American wildcard’s first match on the ATP tour and he will relish the prospect in front of what could be just a handful of staff and spectators. He will have to make do with this for a “home crowd” but the gap in quality between himself and Norrie should tell after what could be a shaky first set from the Brit. Norrie certainly has some trouble winning in straight-sets and so the Brit to win a decider looks likely here.
