World number 71 Dayana Yastremska took the first set and then a tight decider against fellow Ukrainian Kateryna Kozlova on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals of the Courmayeur Open. The 21-year-old is still catching up to her career-high 21st in the WTA world rankings after a six-month suspension for drugs offences, now cleared, that saw her miss the first half of this season but she is too good a player not to re-join the top 40 by this time next year. Yastremska was forced to retire from her first meeting with world number 56 Jasmine Paolini in the first round of the Slovenian Open last month. The Italian went on to win her first WTA title that week with strong wins over the likes of Yulia Putintseva and Alison Riske and she has performed well on home soil so far this campaign. Paolini is yet to drop a set with two wins over fellow Italians but Yastremska is a level above that competition and she looks the likelier of two capable winners here. Take Yastremska to win at least a set and leave the winner up to chance.
