Tallon Griekspoor decided to drop down and compete on the Challenger Tour in his last event, winning two matches in Bordaeux before a loss to Raphael Collignon. The Dutchman has struggled at the other clay court events, with opening round defeats in Marrakech, Monte-Carlo, Munich and Rome, while he could only progress to the third-round in Madrid. Griekspoor’s best result of the season was his run to the final in Dubai, but an injury sustained in his semi-final match forced him to miss both Sunshine Double events.
He takes on Matteo Arnaldi for a place in the second-round. The Italian’s struggles with injuries have seen him drop down the rankings but he has found form again at the right time. He won a Challenger event in Cagliari and then extended his winning run to seven matches in total as he beat Alex de Minaur to advance to the third-round of the Italian Open. Arnaldi pushed Rafael Jodar, losing in three sets.
He has not competed since then, so he should be fit and firing for this round one match with Griekspoor. If Arnaldi can replicate his level here, he will have a real chance of victory.
