Claire Liu booked a spot in just her second WTA final by ending the run of underdog Alexandra Shubladze. 

The American was too strong throughout as she defeated the Russian qualifier 7-5 6-4.

Liu will now feature in a final at this level for the first time since finishing as runner-up in Rabat three years ago. 

The world number 102 will be the underdog as she meets Alexandra Eala for the second time after the second seed edged out Maria Sakkari 7-5 3-6 6-4 in a near three-hour, rain-affected battle.

However, Liu did win their only previous tussle 2-6 6-4 6-4 in Guangzhou last year and with the odds being so heavily weighted the way of the Filipina, there’s enough here to take the punt on the more rested underdog making life difficult.

Can she spring the upset and defeat Eala again? It’s possible, but the world number 17 will be battle-hardened and determined to add to the Washington title she won earlier this year. If you want to focus on outright, it's hard to go against Eala, so other options offer better value here.
