Casper Ruud vs Nuno Borges prediction
Casper Ruud has made it all look very simple and routine this week, easing to three successive straight-sets wins over Juan Manuel Cerundolo, Rafael Jodar and Jan-Lennard Struff. He is looking really solid and consistent, without perhaps being spectacular at times, but he is playing at a really high level.
He takes on Borges, who has been like a man possessed since receiving a lucky loser spot in the first round after being eliminated in qualifying. Since then, he has played with total freedom and real aggression, comfortably dispatching Moise Kouame and Karen Khachanov before losing just two games against Ignacio Buse in a 6-0, 6-2 Round of 16 win.
Borges’ confidence is incredibly high, and he has been speaking with real enthusiasm and happiness about the way he is playing. That makes him a really dangerous competitor at the moment, and it makes this match all the more intriguing.
The pair have met four times before, with their only encounter this year coming in Basel last week, when Borges won 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the Round of 16. That will only serve to boost his confidence even more.
We do not see this being as straightforward as either player’s matches have been over the last few days, and we fully expect this one to go the distance. We have a marginal preference for Ruud, as he is likely to be the fresher of the two, but our pick is on the set betting.
