Winning the toss was absolutely crucial for this India team on a pitch that began as a batter’s paradise, but slowly began to break up and become ideal for the spinners. Manav Suthar was the highlight for the tourists with a six-wicket haul in the fourth inning as Sri Lanka were spun out chasing their victory target. With India in transition and needing to produce new stars as they phase out many of their long-standing servants, Suthar’s emergence was pleasing.
The 24-year-old Suthar took ten wickets across the first test and such a showing should ensure he remains in the team for this second match. He’s feeling confident and no doubt comfortable about his game. On the pitch that is once again likely to aide spin, riding the hot hand appears a no brainer. Back Suthar to gain another five or more wickets this time around.
