Spain vs Germany prediction

Spain have already secured the FIFA World Cup, becoming the kings of football and now they aim to become the kings of field hockey, having shocked Netherlands with an incredible 3-4 semi-final win to make it to Belgium for the final. They were underdogs against the Dutch but a Jose Maria Basterra hat-trick in the space of less than 15 minutes turned the match on its head, Spain scoring four goals across that period to ultimately ice the contest despite a late Netherlands rally.

Unlike Spain, Germany have tasted success at the FIH World Cup before and with three titles to their name, now have the chance to go back-to-back for the first time since Australia won it all in 2010 and 2014. This is a quietly efficient German side who didn’t pull up any trees in the early stages, but quietly racked up the results with an excellent defence being key. However, they fell victims to Spain and Basterra in round two, the forward scoring twice in a 1-2 victory for the Redsticks.

However, the final is an entirely different game and Germany knows what it takes to get the job done under the most intense of pressure. Spain have never won the World Cup and there still feels like more uncertainly over their defence compared to the Germans. The margin of victory won’t be high either way, but backing Germany to edge it feels like the move to make.
