South Africa vs Australia prediction

South Africa have been excellent in Test cricket for an extended period of time now, leading to their place in the World Test Championship final. However, they face a red ball juggernaut in Australia who should be far more comfortable playing in the conditions expected at Lord’s. Plenty of Aussies have lots of experience when it comes to red ball cricket in England and are likely to hit the ground running.

Expect the pace bowling arsenal of Australia to cause South Africa plenty of problems and Kagiso Rabada will need to return the favour for the Proteas, as will tall left-armer Marco Jansen. But whilst wickets shouldn’t be too hard to come by, it’s the batting that will likely prove the difference. Australia appear to be stronger in this department with a top order anchored by Usman Khawaja at the top and featuring the likes of Steve Smith and Travis Head further down.

Beau Webster has been brilliant in county cricket and the all-rounder balances out this Aussie team nicely. Expect them to get enough runs than allows their formidable bowling attack to do what they do best and take the 20 wickets needed.

When you also factor in the natural ability of Australia when it comes to major tournament finals compared to South Africa’s penchant of disappointing come crunch-time, then it makes backing Australia the sensible play here.
