Arguably the standout summer signing from an FPL standpoint, will new Liverpool wonderkid Florian Wirtz (£8.5m) have a bigger fantasy impact in his first Premier League season than Man City’s Phil Foden (£8.0m), who boasts nearly 200 top flight appearances.
Two attacking midfielders come under the microscope here but all the attention will be on one player in particular. German Florian Wirtz’s numbers for Bayer Leverkusen are mouth-watering from an FPL perspective and if he can replicate that productivity at Liverpool, then his fantasy ownership will pile up the points.
Over the course of his last two seasons at Leverkusen, Wirtz recorded 31 goals and 28 assists across his appearances in both Europe and the Bundesliga. Indeed, Wirtz’s most recent Bundesliga campaign saw him acquire 22 attacking returns from 31 appearances.
Phil Foden meanwhile, didn’t enjoy as much success last season, accruing just seven goals and three assists in the Premier League. There are question marks over both his fitness and his place in the Man City starting XI. These factors make Wirtz the more enticing FPL pick despite his slightly more expensive cost.
Verdict: Florian Wirtz (£8.5m)
