The American produced an ultra-attacking display to deservedly prevail 6-3 5-7 6-4 against the world number one.

The 32nd seed will now tackle qualifier Martin Landaluce as the 20-year-old’s fairytale run continued at the tournament courtesy of a 6-3 7-6 success over 14th seed Karen Khachanov. 

This will be a first meeting involving the American and the young Spaniard with Korda no doubt buzzing with confidence after taking out Alcaraz.

The 25-year-old can’t afford any complacency, however, as Landaluce has truly impressed in what is going to go down as his breakthrough event at the top tier.

If Korda hits the heights of his performance against Alcaraz then it should be too much for the world number 151 in the end.
