THE PREDICTION

Like Cardiff’s all-Welsh clash with Scarlets, this famous old fixture will have to get by on malice alone with spectators banned from attending on Boxing Day. It is worth holding off on any and all matches this weekend until right before kick-off but if a match does go ahead there should be enough rivalry going around for an entertaining battle between Glasgow Warriors and in-form travelling Edinburgh. Both Scottish sides are enjoying excellent seasons so far, with Glasgow dismissing Exeter 22-7 last weekend at a foggy Scotstoun Stadium, whilst Edinburgh went one further with a stunning 18-21 victory at Saracens in the Challenge Cup. The visitors are unbeaten in six matches across all competitions and their away record is just as impressive as the hosts’ home record.

Without fans, the scales could be tipped in Edinburgh’s favour for a famous first win at Glasgow since 2018. The score was 23-22 almost a year ago in the Pro14 in the first of a three-match winning streak for Glasgow but taking Edinburgh with a +2 head-start could be the shrewd move here with home advantage diminished.
