THE TEAM NEWS

ST. HELENS

  • St. Helens showed their quality as they put their lack of proper preparation behind them to produce a professional display to outclass Castleford Tigers last week.
  • It was a great win for the Saints on the back of their World Club Challenge success and they could be boosted by the return of Tommy Makinson and Curtis Sironen for this contest.

21-man squad: Welsby, Makinson, Percival, Bennison, Lomax, Dodd, Walmsley, Lees, Mata’utia, Knowles, Lussick, McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Sironen, Wingfield, Bell, Norman, Davies, Royle, Hurrell, Ritson, Delaney

Unavailable: Will Hopoate (Injured), James Roby (Injured), Agnatius Paasi (Injured)

Questionable: Curtis Sironen, Tommy Makinson

LEEDS RHINOS

  • Leeds Rhinos were beaten for the second game in succession to begin the season as they were defeated by a late Hull FC try last week and there will be huge concerns for the Rhinos ahead of this trip.
  • Rohan Smith’s side showed some improvement on their poor round 1 showing but there is still plenty more to work on, although the potential return to James Bentley should give them some more energy in the pack.

21-man squad: Myler, Fusitu’a, Macdonald, Handley, Austin, Sezer, Leeming, Tetevano, Bentley, Martin, Smith, O’Connor, Lisone, Olpherts, Sangare, Holroyd, McDonnell, Walters, Tindall, Donaldson, Sinfield

Unavailable: Harry Newman (Injured), Luke Hooley (Injured), Mikolaj Oledzki (Injured), Morgan Gannon (Injured)

Questionable: James Bentley

THE PREDICTION

St. Helens showed their quality to see off Castleford Tigers in their first game of the Super League season and they will now look to build on that as they return to home soil for the first time since their World Club Challenge success against Penrith Panthers. Saints were too good for Cas and the manner of that victory spells trouble for Leeds Rhinos. The visitors have lost both of their games so far this season and with a huge gulf in quality between these two teams, despite them competing in last season’s Grand Final, Saints can make it 12 successive wins in league games against the Rhinos and can cover the -16 handicap in the process.
