THE TEAM NEWS

CATALANS DRAGONS

  • Catalans Dragons crashed out of the Challenge Cup as St. Helens outclassed them in last week’s quarter-final tie which made it back-to-back losses in all competitions for Steve McNamara’s men having suffered defeat to Huddersfield Giants in their prior Super League outing.
  • The Dragons will be eager to respond here as they take on Toulouse in this all-French affair but they have suffered a huge blow with key man Sam Tomkins ruled out with a leg injury while Gil Dudson also absent.

21-man squad: 1 Arthur Mourgue, 2 Tom Davies, 5 Fouad Yaha, 6 Mitchell Pearce, 7 Josh Drinkwater, 9 Michael McIlorum, 11 Matt Whitley, 12 Mike McMeeken, 13 Benjamin Garcia, 14 Alrix Da Costa, 15 Benjamin Jullien, 16 Paul Séguier, 17 Mickael Goudemand, 18 Matthieu Laguerre, 19 Arthur Romano, 20 Tyrone May, 21 Corentin Le Cam, 22 Dylan Napa, 23 Jordan Dezaria, 27 Joe Chan, 28 Sam Kasiano

TOULOUSE

  • Toulouse failed in their quest to build on their maiden Super League success against St. Helens as they crashed to a heavy loss in their game with Castleford Tigers last time out which leaves them with just one win from their seven games to date.
  • It has been difficult for head coach Sylvain Houles to name a settled side with injuries decimating Toulouse’s first season in the top flight and that is again the case here with Andrew Dixon, Dom Peyroux, Joe Bretherton and Joseph Paulo all ruled out.

21-man squad: 3 Junior Vaivai, 5 Paul Marcon, 7 Lucas Albert, 8 Romain Navarette, 9 Lloyd White, 10 Harrison Hansen, 13 Anthony Marion, 14 Éloi Pélissier, 15 Maxime Puech, 18 Mitch Garbutt, 19 James Cunningham, 20 Ilias Bergal, 21 Chris Hankinson, 22 Gadwin Springer, 23 Justin Sangaré, 24 Guy Armitage, 25 Matty Russell, 26 Hugo Pezet, 27 Olly Ashall-Bott, 30 Maxime Stefani, 31 Tony Gigot

Unavailable: Latrell Schaumkel, Mathieu Jussaume, Andrew Dixon, Dom Peyroux, Joe Bretherton, Joseph Paulo

THE PREDICTION

Catalans Dragons and Toulouse will do battle in what promises to be a brilliant spectacle at Stade Gilbert Brutus, regardless of the outcome. The two French teams will meet in Super League for the first time and it is the hosts that start as heavy favourites. That is unsurprising owing to what each team has shown so far this season, coupled with Catalans’ prolonged spell in the top flight. Last season’s runners-up will have a point to prove after they were knocked out of the Challenge Cup last week and despite losing their last two in all competititions, they should be too good for their compatriots in this one with the hosts able to cover the -17.5 handicap.
