THE TEAM NEWS

WESTS TIGERS

  • Wests Tigers lost for the third game in succession as they were outclassed by North Queensland Cowboys last week while they suffered further injury issues which has seen them dip into the transfer market this week.
  • They moved to sign Brent Naden from opponents Canterbury Bulldogs and he will come into the side to make his debut when the final teams are named but there will be a change in the halves with Luke Brooks succumbing to the hamstring issue which forced him off last week.

Starting 13: To’a, Tupou, Kepaoa, Peachey, Maumalo, Madden, Hastings, Tamou, Liddle, Musgrove, Garner, Leilua, Ofahengaue – Interchanges: Tuilagi, Twal, Brown, Utoikamanu – Reserves: Seyfarth, Naden

Unavailable: Shawn Blore, Adam Doueihi, Tommy Talau, Thomas Mikaele, David Nofoaluma, Daine Laurie, James Roberts, Luke Brooks, Oliver Gildart, Zane Musgrove, Jake Simpkin

CANTERBURY BULLDOGS

  • After producing some woeful performances so far this season, last week’s dreadful showing against Newcastle Knights was their worst and it proved to be too much for Trent Barrett as he stepped down as head coach.
  • The Bulldogs have moved to bring in Michael Potter on an interim basis but he has been handed a blow ahead of this game with Josh Addo-Carr a late withdrawal because of flu while there are several changes to the bench with Raymond Faitala-Mariner a welcome addition.

Starting 13: Dufty, Okunbor, Schoupp, Averillo, Kiraz, Burton, Flanagan, Thompson, Marshall-King, Vaughan, Pangai Jnr., Jackson, King – Interchanges: Stimson, Patolo, Dockar-Clay, Faitala-Mariner – Reserves: Casey, Tsikrikas

Unavailable: Matt Doorey, Jack Hetherington, Braidon Burns, Corey Allan, Josh Addo-Carr, Corey Waddell

THE PREDICTION

Wests Tigers and Canterbury Bulldogs will both be desperate to claim the win here with the pair sitting at the foot of the NRL table. With just two wins apiece so far this season, there has been little to shout about for either team but a new man in the door at the Bulldogs could give them hope of turning things around. They will need to be a lot better with the ball having struggled to score points all year and while they will be out to prove a point here, it is hard to back them with any real conviction. With that in mind, this game is one to avoid in the betting markets but Wests are given the slight edge here having won three of the past four matchups between the two.
