THE TEAM NEWS
SYDNEY ROOSTERS
- Sydney Roosters were well below their best and were made to pay as they were stunned by the Dolphins in their inaugural NRL contest with Trent Robinson’s side needing to be much better in round 2.
- The Tricolours were sloppy in possession and lacklustre in defence with improvements needed across the board and will be boosted by the return of key man Joey Manu, although Matt Lodge has joined an already lengthy injury list.
Starting 13: Tedesco, Tupou, Suaalii, Manu, Paulo, Keary, Walker, Collins, B. Smith, Baker, E. Butcher, N. Butcher, Radley – Interchanges: Turpin, Hutchison, Whyte, May – Reserves: Allan, Thomas, S. Smith, Wong, El-Zakham
Unavailable: Sitili Tupouniua (Injured), Connor Watson (Injured), Billy Smith (Injured), Angus Crichton (Personal reasons), Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (Injured), Matt Lodge (Injured)
NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS
- New Zealand Warriors got their season off to a good start as they claimed a win over Newcastle Knights last week but their task here will be to back that up as they head on the road.
- The Warriors showed some defensive steel to hold off a late challenge from the Knights and on the back of that success, head coach Andrew Webster will roll with the same 17.
Starting 13: Nicoll-Klokstad, Kosi, Wiliame, Pompey, Montoya, Martin, Johnson, Fonua-Blake, Egan, Barnett, Ford, Niukore, Harris – Interchanges: Walker, Afoa, Curran, Ale – Reserves: Vailea, Lussick, Volkman, Tuaupiki, Sironen
Unavailable: Luke Metcalf (Injured), Valingi Kepu (Injured), Jazz Tevaga (Injured), Rocco Berry (Injured), Dallin Watene-Zelezniak (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
Sydney Roosters have come in for some criticism for their performance in round 1 and will need to be much better as they host New Zealand Warriors. The away side will be full of confidence after earning the win over Newcastle Knights in their season opener but this will be a much tougher contest on the road. The Warriors will need to replicate their efforts of last week and while the Roosters could have too much quality for them, they have been handed a generous +16.5 start on the handicap which is worth considering.
