THE TEAM NEWS

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS

Starting 13: Taaffe, Johnston, Burns, Graham, Milne, Walker, Reynolds, Nicholls, Marshall, Burgess, Koloamatangi, Su’A, Sele – Interchanges: Knight, Host, Mago, Mamouzelos – Reserves: Mansour, Paulo, Moga, Moale

Unavailable: Brock Gardner (Injured), Tevita Tatola (Injured), Cameron Murray (Origin), Damien Cook (Origin), Dane Gagai (Origin), Jai Arrow (Origin), Latrell Mitchell (Origin)

  • South Sydney Rabbitohs produced a superb first half showing to all but seal the win against Wests Tigers, although their second half performance will have disappointed head coach Wayne Bennett in spite of his side making it four straight wins.
  • Souths went into the sheds with a 26-point lead having kept their opponents scoreless in the first half but they went on to lose the second half 22-12 and Bennett will want more from his side this week, although he will not have five players at his disposal owing to Origin call-ups.

NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS

Starting 13: Asi, Feldt, Bowen, Lemuelu, Taulagi, Drinkwater, Dearden, Hess, Robson, McLean, Wright, Dunn, Taumalolo – Interchanges: Granville, Gilbert, Burr, Luki – Reserves: Hola, Bell, Condon, Bradley

Unavailable: Reuben Cotter (Injured), Ben Hampton (Injured), Francis Molo (Origin), Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (Origin), Valentine Holmes (Origin)

  • North Queensland Cowboys suffered a third successive loss as their top eight chances were seriously harmed by a huge loss to Newcastle Knights last week with the Cowboys failing to score a single point.
  • In a poor showing on both sides of the ball, the 38-0 defeat was an ugly one and Todd Payten has his work cut out to turn his side’s fortunes around this season and will be without the likes of Valentine Holmes for this contest.

THE PREDICTION

South Sydney Rabbitohs failed to kick on in the second half of last week’s clash with Wests Tigers and having already done that a few time this season, it will be an area of concern. They did at least manage to make it four straight wins and they will be confident of extending that winning streak as they take on North Queensland Cowboys. Newcastle Knights nilled them in what was a shambolic performance last week and having lost three in a row, their work is cut out here. Both teams are missing players because of State of Origin call-ups and while Souths are without more talent, their key halves pairing remains intact and that should allow them to cover the -14 handicap in this one.
