THE TEAM NEWS

HULL FC

  • Hull FC got off to a terrible start in their Challenge Cup quarter-final with Wigan Warriors last week and they failed to recover as they were blown away in the one-sided affair with interim head coach Andy Last having a big job to lift his side for this clash.
  • The Black and Whites were architects of their own downfall as they made countless errors, gifting the Warriors easy possession and they were duly punished for their mistakes in the one-sided affair.
  • Hull were expected to make big changes to their side in a bid to put in a more energetic performance than they mustered at the weekend but there are just two changes to the 21-man squad with Josh Bowden and Jamie Shaul hoping to return from injury.

21-man squad: Bowden, Brown, Cator, Connor, Faraimo, Fash, Fonua, Griffin, Houghton, Johnstone, Lane, Matongo, Ma’u, Sao, Satae, Scott, Shaul, Sneyd, Tuimavave, Wynne

Unavailable: Scott Taylor, Josh Jones, Ratu Naulago, Albert Kelly, Kieran Buchanan, Adam Swift, Gareth Ellis

Questionable: Andre Savelio

SALFORD RED DEVILS

  • Salford Red Devils produced a valiant fightback as they came out on top of a thrilling clash with Catalans Dragons in their Challenge Cup contest last week and they will be full of confidence after that success.
  • The Red Devils levelled the scores late on to force golden point and Dan Sarginson crossed in the opening stages of the additional time to send his side through to the final four but they cannot get carried away with that ahead of this clash.
  • Salford will still harbour hopes of making the top four but they cannot afford to lose many more matches and they will have to deal with the absence of Niall Evalds once again with Sarginson likely to line-up in the fullback role once again.

21-man squad: Ackers, Atkin, Brown, Burke, Chamberlain, Dudson, Flanagan, Ikahihifo, Inu, Kear, Lolohea, Lussick, McCarthy, Ormondroyd, Pauli, Roberts, Sarginson, Watkins, Welham, Williams, Yates

Unavailable: Ken Sio, Josh Johnson, Ryan Lannon, Niall Evalds, Lee Mossop, James Greenwood

THE PREDICTION

These teams had contrasting fortune in the Challenge Cup last week and it could be the same story once again with Salford Red Devils likely to fancy their chances of overcoming Hull FC. They last met in the first game after lockdown with Salford running away with that game and that they will be confident of getting the better of their opponents again here. They dug deep to earn a good win over Catalans Dragons last week and with Hull looking short of energy and belief in their heavy loss to Wigan Warriors, the Red Devils should be too good here.
