Ronnie O’Sullivan vs Si Jiahui prediction
Ronnie O’Sullivan swept aside Pang Junxu 13-4 in the second round and was never really troubled by his Chinese opponent, but he should expect sterner resistance from Si Jiahui in this quarter-final.
The Rocket was downbeat about his title chances in the aftermath of his victory, claiming that he is going to get “found out” deeper in the tournament. The reality is though, that the seven-time world champion has lost the fewest frames so far of all eight quarter-finalists.
Si Jiahui did not come into Sheffield with the form that would indicate another deep run, but he is now just one round away from matching his semi-final appearance as a qualifier in 2023.
However, it’s fair to say that he hasn’t been playing as well as he did on that occasion, instead relying on gritty match play to overcome his opponents. Indeed, his 13-10 victory over Ben Woollaston in the second round wasn’t exactly easy on the eye but he did the right things at the right times to navigate his way through.
With the likes of defending champion Kyren Wilson and four-time winner Mark Selby exiting the tournament early, this side of the draw has opened up nicely for O’Sullivan to play himself into contention. Jiahui will likely fare better than his compatriot Junxu did in the previous round, but he is unlikely to trouble O'Sullivan too much.
Ronnie O’Sullivan vs Si Jiahui tip: Ronnie O’Sullivan to win with -3.5 frames handicap
