Nicolas Jarry continued his brilliant run at Wimbledon as he defeated 18-year-old Joao Fonseca in an engrossing encounter on Court Two. The Chilean had to qualify to enter the main draw but is now in the fourth-round of a slam for just the second time and the first at Wimbledon. He made a fast start in this one, before holding off a Fonseca fightback to win 6-3 6-4 3-6 7-6.
He will now face Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the next round as the former semi-finalist defeated Mattia Bellucci in straight sets. Norrie went a break down early on but recovered to edge in front after a tight first set tiebreak. He then largely dominated the next two sets to win 7-6 6-4 6-3. He struggled for any kind of grass court momentum heading into Wimbledon but he’s now made back-to-back fourth round appearances in Grand Slams, despite being ranked outside the top 50.
They have only played once and it took place over seven years ago, with Jarry defeating Norrie in the first-round of Miami in straight sets. Norrie is moving beautifully on the grass and is always a dogged competitor. He’s the favourite for this one and likely to outlast Jarry.
