Botic van de Zandschulp continued his impressive season with a run to the round-of-16 at the Shanghai Masters. He came from a set down to beat Daniel Merida in his opening match and then followed that up with victories over Alex Michelsen and Arthur Fils. He took the first set against Rafael Jodar, before losing in three. Van de Zandschulp also advanced to that stage in Montreal, along with a quarter-final finish at the US Open for the second time in his career.

He goes up against Kamil Majchrzak. The Pole’s highlight of the season was his superb title run at the Libema Open during the grass court season, the first of his career. Majchrzak defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime, Daniil Medvedev and Alex de Minaur. His more recent form has been less impressive, with four losses from six matches. Majchrzak lost his opening match in Shanghai to Yannick Hanfmann in three close sets.

Van de Zandschulp leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a victory in Melbourne five years ago. He will hope to generate further momentum with a strong run here.
