DAN ARGUETA VS JEAN MATSUMOTO LOWDOWN

After suffering the first loss of his career on his UFC debut, Dan Argueta (9-1(2)) got straight back in the win column with a vintage unanimous decision over Nick Aguirre (2023). He has fought twice since, but they are both deemed a ‘no contest’. The first was a premature stoppage against Ronnie Lawrence (2023) and then he lost a unanimous decision to Miles Johns (2023) which was later overturned due to Johns failing a drugs test.

Now he welcomes Jean Matsumoto (14-0) to the octagon. A unanimous decision over Inaildo Santos (2022) and submission over Marlon Basilio de Oliveira (2023) under the LFA banner led to his opportunity on the Contender Series. He took on Kasey Tanner (2023) and sealed the contract with another unanimous decision to extend his unbeaten record..

DAN ARGUETA VS JEAN MATSUMOTO PREDICTION

Welcoming debutants is always risky business especially when they are as well-rounded as Matsumoto. He is a solid striker with a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu carrying the confidence of never tasting defeat.

Argueta needs to stick to his strengths and minimize the risk. Expect him to shoot in early and attempt to control Matsumoto against the cage or preferably on his back. The debutant will be confident enough in his own wrestling to keep the fight standing or comfortable attacking submissions off his back should he end up there.

Argueta will pile on the pressure, and we can see him snatching a couple rounds with control time. He is great value as the underdog, but we feel Matsumoto’s speed, takedown defence and leg kicks will be enough to sway the judges.

Prediction: Matsumoto via Decision

Value bet: Argueta via Decision
