ANDREA LEE VS MAYCEE BARBER LOWDOWN
Andrea Lee (13-6) only fought once last year and was going into the fight with some much-needed momentum. She was coming off three limp decision losses to Joanne Wood (2019), Lauren Murphy (2020) and Roxanne Modafferi (2020). She saved her UFC career by submitting Antonina Shevchenko (2021) and followed that up with a TKO over Cynthia Calvillo (2021). However, Viviane Araujo crushed that momentum with a unanimous decision in May and we have not seen her since.
Maycee Barber (11-2) also lost a unanimous decision to Modafferi in 2020 which is never a good look. The current champ Alexa Grasso (2021) inflicted her second loss a year later, but she has picked herself up to string three decent wins together earning decisions against Miranda Maverick (2021), Montana De La Rosa (2022) and Jessica Eye (2022).
ANDREA LEE VS MAYCEE BARBER PREDICTION
It is frustrating to see how inconsistent Lee is considering her skill set. She is very well-rounded and proved she can finish but keeps stumbling in weak performances. We may have seen the best of her but we do not feel the same about Barber.
She has not lived up to the hype, but she still has a lot of potential to fill. We expect her to be her usual aggressive self and will open up with hard leg kicks and stabbing Lee’s mid-section with her teep.
If she lets Lee settle, she will get a read on the range and begin to pick Barber apart from a distance. Lee also has the ability to reverse positions in the clinch however, we expect Barber to bully Lee which is the perfect game plan.
Lee has the better striking technique, but we expect Barber’s power to impress the judges. We also expect some grappling where Barber will display her strength to seal the rounds and the decision.
