Martin Landaluce reached his second Masters 1000 quarter-final of the season as he got past Hamad Medjedovic. The Spaniard broke at the end of the first set to take the lead, but Medjedovic broke right at the start of the second as he looked to draw level. However, Landaluce, who only entered the draw as a lucky loser, got back on level terms and then dealt the crushing blow when the Serb was serving to stay in the tournament. He won 7-5 6-4.
He goes up against former world number one and 2023 champion Daniil Medvedev in the next round. The 30-year-old advanced to the last eight after a comfortable win over Thiago Agustin Tirante. Medvedev defended superbly and consistently created chances as he won 6-3 6-2 after one hour and 22 minutes.
Landaluce has performed superbly to get to this stage, but Medvedev will be his toughest challenge of the tournament by quite some distance.
