Mariano Navone continued his strong form as he beat Jenson Brooksby in the first-round of the French Open. The Argentine won in straight sets, only encountering an issue at the start as he went an early break down. He won 6-4 6-4 6-4 and has now won five matches out of his last six, having reached the final of the Geneva Open last week.
He faces Jakub Mensik next. The 20-year-old also won his first-round match in straight sets as he comfortably got past Titouan Droguet. Mensik won 6-3 6-2 6-4 after two hours and nine minutes. His best result of the clay court season so far was a round-of-16 appearance at the Madrid Open.
Mensik is one win away from his best ever run at Roland Garros, but Navone will be a very tough match, especially with the way he’s been performing over the last week. Mensik will have to serve well and shorten points to his advantage.
