23-year-old Kasidit Samrej won an Asia-Pacific Wildcard Playoff to earn himself a place in the main draw for the Australian Open in what is easily the biggest match of his short career. A regular on the ITF World Tennis Tour, the young Thai player has a golden opportunity on the world stage and will be desperate to put in a good showing.
He has had an incredibly few weeks including training with Novak Djokovic so this will likely be the culmination of a life-changing period for him.
He meets world number five Daniil Medvedev who has been runner-up in Melbourne in three of the last four years. The 28-year-old is desperate to win another Grand Slam and he will hope to start 2025 in fine form.
While this is a major banana skin which Medvedev is prone to slipping on every so often, he should have far too much quality for Samrej. It is hard to see anything other than a straight-sets win for the Russian.
