Jack Draper vs Marin Cilic prediction
Jack Draper comfortably booked a place in the second-round of Wimbledon after his opponent Sebastian Baez retired at the start of the third set. The British number one had completely dominated the encounter up to that point as he was leading 6-2 6-2 2-1, having not even faced a break point. Draper will know that bigger challenges lie ahead but he produced a strong performance on Court One to get his highly anticipated campaign underway.
Marin Cilic, the 2017 finalist, will be next up for Draper. He won his first Grand Slam match since the 2022 US Open after beating Raphael Collignon 6-3 6-4 6-3. The 36-year-old is not the player he once was but made the Nottingham Open final leading up to this slam and is a seasoned grass court player.
This will be a tougher test for Draper and he may have to dig in for a set or two but he’ll still be the heavy favourite to make the third-round at the Championships for the first time in his career.
