• Pittsburgh Penguins were unable to make it three wins in a row as they went down to a narrow loss against Edmonton Oilers in their last game which saw them fall to 8-5-1 for the season.

• Boston Bruins maintained their superb form of late as they made it five consecutive victories with another impressive attacking display as they swept Ottawa Senators aside in their last game.
• The Bruins made it three games in a row scoring five goals or more as they produced a brilliant third period to take the game away from the Senators after the scored had been tied at 2-2 at the end of the second.
• David Backes is doubtful for this contest after he was involved in an awful collision with Scott Sabourin in the game against the Senators and the Bruins forward is expected to sit out his team’s next few matches due to an upper body injury.
