THE LOWDOWN

METZ

Following promotion last season, Metz have enjoyed some impressive spells where they have seemed like they wouldn’t even get dragged into a relegation battle. However, predictably and as expected, they have spent much of the campaign in the relegation battle. They head into the final four matches sitting just outside of the bottom three.

That is because, under the management of Hungarian Laszlo Boloni, the home team come into this one on the back of back-to-back victories. Their most recent outing saw them edge past Le Havre by a goal to nil with a 46th minute winner from Georges Mikautadze, a week after the Georgian had scored a match-winning brace against Lens.

LILLE

Coached by former Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca, Lille have enjoyed an extremely impressive campaign as they begin this weekend sitting just outside of the top three and the UEFA Champions League qualifying spots. The northerners do, though, come into this one on the back of a frustrating defeat in midweek.

They travelled to their rival challengers for a top three spot, Monaco, in midweek and suffered a 1-0 defeat at Stade Louis II in the principality with Youssouf Fofana scoring a 61st minute winning goal. They play an easy on the eye style of football but have also kept over 20 clean sheets across all competitions so far this season.

THE PREDICTION

We have what could well be a very one-sided affair in Metz this weekend as Laszlo Boloni’s strugglers take on one of the very best teams in the country. However, Metz’ recent improved run of form and the excellent performances of Georges Mikautadze, combined with Lille’s potential fatigue following their run to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League, could mean it is a closer contest than expected. With Mikautadze up-front, Metz will fancy scoring, whilst Lille will be on the front foot and generally on control.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
