THE LOWDOWN
BOCHUM
Only goal difference is currently keeping Bochum inside the bottom three ahead one of the Bundesliga’s form sides in Mainz, but gaining anything from this match would take them above Mainz at least temporarily, whilst victory would see them also leapfrog Union Berlin. To do that though, they’ll need to break a run of eight Bundesliga fixtures without victory.
Those eight games have seen Bochum pick up just two points, both of which came through home draws against Darmstadt and Heidenheim respectively. However, most recently they were narrowly beaten 1-0 away at Wolfsburg through a Jonas Wind goal just before half-time.
HOFFENHEIM
Hoffenheim are still pushing to finish as high as possible in the table this campaign to give themselves the best chance at securing a place in Europe next season. That has been reflected in recent performances with them winning two of their last three matches. Both of those victories came at home and both were high scoring affairs, with Hoffenheim racking up seven goals over the course of those two games.
Away from home, you have to go back to late February for the last time Hoffenheim won on the road, shocking Borussia Dortmund with a 2-3 triumph. But whilst they have always proven dangerous going forward, defensively Hoffenheim have struggled, conceding 16 goals across their last six Bundesliga fixtures.

THE PREDICTION
Expect Bochum to come out of the traps quickly here and really look to take the game to their opponents, knowing the importance of picking up a win and taking into account the defensive fragilities of Hoffenheim. However, the visitors contain a significant level of firepower going forward and it’s hard to see them being shut out for 90 minutes against a side like Bochum, who have struggled desperately to put positive results on the board. With that in mind, backing both teams to score appears a shrewd play, regardless of the final outcome.
