THE LOWDOWN

CADIZ

It has been a generally miserable campaign for Cadiz but they have given themselves some slight hope down in the bottom three and the relegation places. The Andalusians, following an improvement that came on the back of an appointment of former Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino in January, begin the weekend sitting six points adrift with six games to go.

The hosts do, though, come into this on the back of three defeats in their last four matches in La Liga. The most recent of those three defeats came at high flying Girona last weekend as they suffered a 4-1 hammering with goals being scored by Eric Garcia, Ivan Martin, Artem Dovbyk and Portu.

MALLORCA

Real Mallorca begin this weekend sitting six points above Cadiz with the Balearic Islanders enduring a bit of a slump of late. They come into this one on the back of back-to-back La Liga losses against Sevilla and Real Madrid ever since they suffered a penalty shootout defeat to Athletic Club in the final of the Copa del Rey at La Cartuja in Seville.

Both of those losses against tough opposition in Madrid and Sevilla were slender defeats but it has dragged them into the fight against the drop with pressure ever so slightly growing on Javier Aguirre. They have now managed just four victories inside 90 minutes in their last 14 matches across all competitions.

THE PREDICTION

Neither of these sides have thrilled the neutral in the last few seasons and that has once again been the case this year. Cadiz do have the chance to close the gap on Mallorca to just three points so there may well be added impetus and intensity from the hosts but Mallorca, even more so with that knowledge, will be keen on ensuring a goalless draw down in the south of Spain. The two teams have combined for just 48 goals this season and they are the two lowest scorers in the division with a low-scoring encounter to be expected.
