On paper, this feels like a huge mismatch and understandably so. Germany are a field hockey powerhouse, three-time world champions and reigning European champions. They’ve also won Olympic gold four times and reached the FIH World Cup final in four of the last six editions. When it comes to this tournament, Germany are the gold standard.
This is essentially a free hit for Malaysia. No one expects them to get anything out of this game but that should allow them to at least play with freedom and have a go at Germany.
