  • Fenerbahçe have lost the first leg of a European tie away from home on 22 occasions and have won on aggregate only once.
  • Olympiacos are participating in their first UEFA competition quarter-final since the 1998/99 UEFA Champions League when they lost 3-2 on aggregate against Juventus. Their only other UEFA quarter-final was a 4-2 aggregate defeat by Atlético de Madrid in the 1992/93 Cup Winners’ Cup.

  • Olympiacos have won 22 of the 27 UEFA club competition ties in which they won the first leg at home, and are on a streak of 11 consecutive victories after first-leg home wins. The last time they were eliminated after winning a first leg at home came in the 2013/14 Champions League round of 16 when they beat Manchester United 2-0 in the first leg, but were beaten 3-0 at Old Trafford following a Robin van Persie hat-trick.

THE PREDICTION

We had a thrilling first-leg in Piraeus last week as Olympiakos raced into a 3-0 lead but Fenerbahce fought back to make it 3-2 and set up a possible classic in Istanbul this week in the second-leg. Fener have been really impressive this season as they challenge Galatasaray in the Turkish title race and they enjoyed a 2-1 defeat of Fatih Karagumruk in the Super Lig at the weekend. Coached by Jose Luis Mendilibar, who won the UEFA Europa League with Sevilla last season, Olympiakos have been really impressive since his appointment. Fener are likely favourites with their home advantage but both teams scoring seems a good bet.
