THE KEY STATS

  • Union Berlin are without a win in their last seven UEFA club competition matches (D3 L4).
  • Union Berlin are aiming to win a UEFA Champions League match for the first time (D2 L3).
  • Real Madrid have only failed to score in one of their last 28 UEFA Champions League group stage matches.
  • Real Madrid have lost only one of their last 17 fixtures on Matchday 6 of the UEFA Champions League group stage (W14 D2).
  • Real Madrid have lost only one of their last 15 UEFA club competition matches against German teams (W10 D4).
  • Real Madrid are aiming to win all six matches in a UCL group for the third time having previously done so in 2011/12 and 2014/15. Only Bayern have achieved the feat on three occasions.

THE PREDICTION

Real Madrid have won 13 of their last 15 Champions League group stage fixtures and will no doubt want to secure a perfect 18 points from a possible 18 with victory against Union Berlin. It’s been a maiden Champions League campaign full of disappointment for the German side, who have no doubt struggled with the standard of competition and perhaps the demands of the competition from a physical perspective, not to mention having to play games at the Olympiastadion rather than their own home ground. Even if Real Madrid were to rest key players, the strength-in-depth within their squad should see them still have enough quality to get the better of Union in this one.

TIP: REAL MADRID TO WIN
