THE LOWDOWN
VILLARREAL
It has been a bit of a bizarre campaign for Villarreal with two managers, Quique Setien and Pacheta, parted company with by the November international break and then former Valencia boss Marcelino starting really slowly but the Yellow Submarine have turned things around as they try and push back towards the top-half of La Liga.
They did, though, exit the UEFA Europa League at the Round of 16 stage in midweek, despite defeating Olympique de Marseille by three goals to one at El Madrigal in midweek. It appeared like Villarreal could produce one of the great European comebacks but they eventually succumbed to a 5-3 aggregate loss.
VALENCIA
In the Jose Bordalas derby last weekend, Valencia edged to a 1-0 win at Mestalla last weekend with a 40th minute winning goal from Hugo Duro. That victory means the Valencians have now suffered just one loss in their last five matches in La Liga as they continue their challenge for European qualification this season.
They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just two points off the top seven and the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying spots. Valencia, coached by former player Ruben Baraja, were expected to be battling against relegation once again this season but instead they have been one of the more awkward teams to play against in La Liga, conceding just 31 goals thus far.
THE TEAM NEWS

Villarreal left-back Alberto Moreno is missing through suspension this weekend, whilst the likes of Raul Albiol, Juan Foyth and Denis Suarez are out injured.

QUESTIONABLE:
VALENCIA
Valencia are without the likes of Mouctar Diakhaby, who recently suffered a serious knee injury, and Hugo Guillamon, who is unavailable due to suspension.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Foulquier, Mosquera, Gabriel, Gaya; Ozkacar, Pepelu; Perez, Guerra, Lopez; Duro
UNAVAILABLE: Guillamon (Suspended), Diakhaby (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Almeida (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
This one is technically a local derby but the rivalry is relatively small given just how small the town of Villarreal is, both in terms of size and population. Villarreal are generally below par for the campaign but they will be aiming to finish this season well and rebuild ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. Valencia, on the other hand, will sense a good chance of beating their neighbours and it could be quite a fun game on Sunday afternoon with both teams scoring a good bet.
