GIRONA PREVIEW: REMARKABLE CAMPAIGN

Girona have enjoyed a magnificent campaign, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history in what is just their fifth season ever in La Liga. The Catalans have flirted with being in the title race this season but their manager, Michel, has managed to re-motivate them in order to finish the campaign with a bit of a flourish.

They come into this one on the back of a comfortable 3-1 victory at Mestalla against an out of form Valencia side in their most recent outing last weekend. Savio opened the scoring in the 33rd minute before the lead was doubled by Artem Dovbyk and then Yarek Gasiorowski’s own goal made it three a few minutes later before Pepelu notched a late penalty for the hosts.

GRANADA PREVIEW: RELEGATED WITH A WHIMPER

Under the management of Jose Ramon Sandoval, Granada collected seven points from three matches in April and did appear to be finishing the season, which would have inevitably finished in relegation, with a bit of fight. Instead, though, they have now suffered four successive losses and are some 16 points off 17th placed Real Mallorca ahead of the final week.

The Andalusians’ four defeats began with a 3-0 loss to Sevilla followed by losing 4-0 to Real Madrid and then 2-1 to struggling Rayo Vallecano. Their most recent loss saw them host Celta Vigo, needing to win to survive, and Jorgen Strand Larsen opened the scoring in the 61st minute before a quick-fire strike from Jonathan Bamba was enough to see off Bruno Mendez’ late goal.

GIRONA VS GRANADA PREDICTION

At the start of this season, the two teams may have appeared evenly matched with Girona readying themselves for ‘second season syndrome’ after losing key men such as Santi Bueno, Oriol Romeu and Valentin Castellanos and Granada buoyant under Paco Lopez following their promotion. However, that could not have been much further from reality and that is expected to be shown on the final day with a heavy home win.
