THE LOWDOWN

CELTA VIGO

Former Real Madrid and Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is in charge of a Celta Vigo side that are somehow staying involved in the Liga relegation battle, hovering just a place outside of the bottom three and the relegation places. The Galicians missed yet another glorious opportunity to push away from the bottom three as they were held by fellow strugglers Cadiz last weekend.

In that game, Celta had a 2-0 lead after 58 minutes with goals from Iago Aspas and Williot Swedberg. However, Juanmi pulled a goal back in the 66th minute before Darwin Machis scored deep into second-half stoppage-time. They have now managed just one win in their last seven matches across all competitions.

ALMERIA

Celta have just faced some struggling Andalusians in Cadiz last weekend and they now face another side that fall into that category. Almeria, quite astonishingly, are heading into the final 12 weeks of the 2023/24 La Liga campaign with no victories, sharing nine draws and suffering 17 defeats so far this season.

They come into this one on the back of January transfer window signing Luka Romero scoring a brace as Almeria shared a 2-2 draw with Atletico Madrid on Saturday. That was their third successive draw and they have put in some genuinely impressive performances against the likes of Real Madrid, Girona, Barcelona and Athletic in the last couple of months.

THE TEAM NEWS

CELTA VIGO

Celta are without key forward Iago Aspas due to suspension, whilst the likes of Renato Tapia and Mihailo Ristic are both missing through injury, too.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Guaita; Mingueza, Starfelt, Dominguez, Aidoo; Allende, Beltran, Nunez, de la Torre; Strand Larsen, Douvikas

UNAVAILABLE: Aspas (Suspended), Rodriguez (Injured), Tapia (Injured), Ristic (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Swedberg (Injured), Dotor (Injured)

ALMERIA

Luka Romero is now a doubt for this weekend with Luis Suarez and Ibrahima Kone both potentially unavailable, whilst Aleksandar Radovanovic is out injured.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Maximiano; Pubill, Edgar Gonzalez, Montes, Langa; Baba, Robertone; Romero, Viera, Embarba; Lozano

UNAVAILABLE: Radovanovic (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Luka Romero (Injured), Suarez (Injured), Kone (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Now then, Celta’s performances have been a lot better than their results have suggested this season but they had a great opportunity to move themselves away last week and blew it, conceding so late on against Cadiz. Almeria have proven themselves to be a bit of a threat but that threat has most commonly been shown on the counter attack so backing Celta remains the most sensible way to go for this one.

TIP: CELTA TO WIN
