THE LOWDOWN

ALMERIA

It has been a miserable campaign for Almeria, despite an improvement in their performances in the last few months. The Andalusians are rock-bottom in La Liga and one of the only top-flight teams in European football to remain winless so far this season. They begin the weekend sitting 15 points adrift of safety with 11 games to go.

Almeria come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat to the team currently in 17th against Celta Vigo at Balaidos last week. Bruno Langa was sent off in the 65th minute of that match before Oscar Mingueza scored a winning goal for the Galicians. They have conceded 55 goals and collected just nine points in the 2023/24 campaign.

SEVILLA

It has been a desperately much-needed and well timed improvement in form by Sevilla recently as they attempt to propel themselves away from the bottom three and the relegation places. Former Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores, who is the Andalusians’ third coach of the campaign after Jose Luis Mendilibar and Diego Alonso, is finally getting a tune out of his underperforming giants.

They come into this one on the back of an entertaining 3-2 defeat of Real Sociedad at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan with a brace from Youssef En-Nesyri and a goal from Sergio Ramos in that match. That means they have now managed three victories and a draw in their last four matches with their only defeat being a late loss at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid.

THE TEAM NEWS

ALMERIA

Bruno Langa is unavailable for this weekend after he was sent off for Almeria last week, whilst Ibrahima Kone and Luis Suarez are both doubtful for this one.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Maximiano; Pubill, Edgar Gonzalez, Radovanovic, Centelles; Baba, Robertone; Romero, Viera, Embarba; Lozano

UNAVAILABLE: Langa (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE: Kone (Injured), Suarez (Injured)

SEVILLA

Sevilla have several injury issues for this one with the likes of Jesus Navas, Joan Jordan and Dodi Lukebakio, whilst Marcos Acuna and Nemanja Gudelj are doubts.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Nyland; Bade, Ramos, Salas; Suso, Sow, Soumare, Oliver Torres, Pedrosa; En-Nesyri, Romero

UNAVAILABLE: Navas (Injured), Joan Jordan (Injured), Lamela (Injured), Agoume (Injured), Marcao (Injured), Lukebakio (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Acuna (Injured), Mariano Diaz (Injured), Gudelj (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

A few weeks ago, this Andalusian derby had the potential to be a genuinely crucial clash in the relegation battle but that is no longer the case for either side. Almeria have become completely adrift at the bottom-of-the-table, whilst Sevilla will look to head into the final couple of months aiming to finish with a bit of a flourish. Given just how poor Almeria are, as well as Sevilla’s improved form, backing the visitors looks the way to go for this one.

TIP: SEVILLA TO WIN
