THE LOWDOWN
ALAVES
Following promotion back to the top-flight last season, Deportivo Alaves have never really been involved in La Liga’s relegation battle throughout this season, despite lots of rumours and quite strong suggestions that Luis Garcia Plaza would sacked but an improvement in their fortunes in January led to him avoiding the sack.
The Basque club have continued to stick by their manager as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table. They come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat of Valencia at Mestalla with a winning goal scored by Javier Lopez. That was their third successive victory in the league.
GIRONA
Last weekend, Girona confirmed that they have finished in the top four and will be playing in the UEFA Champions League next season. In what is just their fifth ever season in La Liga, the Catalans have proven to be an ambitious yet effective, attacking team that, coached by Michel, have even flirted with the title race at times.
To confirm UEFA Champions League qualification, they completed their second 4-2 victory of the season over regional rivals Barcelona last weekend. Andreas Christensen opened the scoring for Barcelona after three minutes before an almost immediate equaliser from Artem Dovbyk. Robert Lewandowski put Barca back ahead before goals from Portu and then one from Miguel Gutierrez won them the game.

GIRONA

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Gazzaniga; E. Garcia, Lopez, Blind, Gutierrez; Herrera, A. Garcia; Couto, Martin, Savio; Dovbyk

THE PREDICTION
Up at the Mendizorrozza, Alaves are in excellent form and are finishing their season with a bit of a flourish. The Basque club have, though, remained one of the duller teams to watch from a neutral perspective with just 32 goals scored in 34 matches. Girona, on the other hand, have been absolutely thrilling and the handbrake can truly come off now top four is a certainty. Given Alaves’ good form, despite their low-scoring ways, both teams scoring would appear a good bet for this one.
TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
