Alessio Dionisi had been under pressure for quite some time in the Sassuolo dugout and they finally took the decision to sack the former Empoli boss after a defeat to his ex-club last month. They are now coached by Davide Ballardini but haven’t been able to drag themselves out of the bottom three and the relegation places.
Since Ballardini’s appointment, Sassuolo have seemed even likelier to be relegated if anything. They began his reign with a 6-1 loss at home to Napoli and then followed that up with a 1-0 defeat to Hellas Verona. They did manage a much-needed 1-0 victory over Frosinone a few weeks ago before going into the March international break on the back of a loss to Roma at Stadio Olimpico.
UDINESE
It has been a very bizarre campaign for Udinese thus far as they sit in the bottom-half of the Serie A table with four victories, 15 draws and ten defeats in their 29 matches so far this season. Only bottom-of-the-table Salernitana have won fewer than this, but they have lost fewer than Lazio and only one more game than defending champions Napoli.
The Friulians’ propensity to draw too much means they are hovering just above the bottom three and the relegation places under the management of former Crawley Town boss Gabriele Cioffi. Udinese come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to Torino a couple of weeks ago in their most recent outing before the March international break.

This one is a crucial encounter down in the Serie A relegation battle as Udinese make the short trip south to face Sassuolo. Both sides have been looking to batten down the hatches throughout the last few months and this one is expected to be a tense and nervy affair between two sides that have combined for a total of just 61 goals between them, which is fairly remarkable given the fact Sassuolo were coached for a proactive manager in Dionisi for the vast majority of this season. Under 3.5 goals seems almost entirely inevitable for this one.
